So far Utah has dominated, Wyoming has shocked, UNLV and Col St have been Huge disappointments and everyone else ( AF, BYU, UNM, SDSU) has been running hot and cold. Heres what I have noticed so far, feel free to comment. Heres how I am predicting the end result
1. UTAH- Their Spread Option offense is Amazing and seems unstopable and their Defense is no joke either allowing only a little more than a Dozen points a game. They will probably go undefeated, BYU looks to be the only other team in the conference that has a remote chance at beating them.
2. AIR FORCE- We had a Bad Start against a Good Cal team but seem to be better than everyone thinks we are. Our offense is good enough to rack up points and win the remainder of our conference games, its Our D that has to step up and make sure the opposing teams dont score more! But I think we can take 2nd
3. Wyoming- They seem to be on a roll and have their best start in years. They have the ability to win alot of games and their offense can score a ton on you, but like Air Force their defense will have to step it up a few notches. The High Elevation that helped them against Ole Miss is not a factor against other MWC schools. If they can win the close ones they will get the #3 spot.
4. BYU- They have played a rough schedule but are a far better team than what their record indicates. They have a good passing game, a lousy running game (except against CSU) and an aggresive defense. this spot was a toss up between BYU and UNM, but the Lobo's hardly ever beat the Courgars so I gave it to BYU
5. NEW MEXICO- Until they Played Utah, they had looked impressive. Their Stingy Defense is their biggest strenth, but the offense seems stagnant. Their D will keep them in games but their O has to make great strides and put up more than a TD or 2 to win any game. It will depend on when Dontrell Moore returns, without him they dont have a chance. ( hopefully he will be out 1 more week . )
6. SDSU- Almost beating Michigan was an impressive start but they getting whupped by a mediocre UCLA has me 2nd guessing how good they really are. They are decent on both sides of the ball but not anything special. I dont see them winning very much.
7. UNLV- Until tonight I was convinced they would finish dead last. They finally won a game, and won big. Their offense came alive for the 1st time this season, I guess they are capable of scoring! But 1 good game against a not so good team does not = success. They still have major issues on both sides of the ball and I dont see them competing in any game. I think they will get lucky and beat CSU, buts thats it.
8. COLORADO ST- They have a pretty good passing game and put up some pretty good #'s, but very few points. That spells disaster. This team looks like a train wreck week after week. Thier offense is decent but cant finish anything and their D is horrible. I dont see them winning any Conference matchups...or even coming close.
