No. Kerry did not have to go. Not everyone that went into Vietnam got drafted. He choose to go. He could have gotten out of going.
And he did not betray his soldiers in his speech to the Senate. He simply told the truth about atrocities that were commited by US Troops. There's no lie in that. Did we cut off heads? Yes. Did we make necklaces out of VC soldiers ears? Yes. Did we kill innocent people? Yes. Some Veterans don't accept that. They were mad because they were all portrayed as murderers when they came back and that was not the case, but thats why there angry.

he served for 3 months, not one person on his swift boat ever saw any of these "atrocities"
his service as well as his speech were out of political ambitions, just like his self inflicted wounds for purple hearts, keep in mind he petitioned wholeheartedly for one of them

My dad never saw them, but he knew what was going on. He served for 3 mothes. Because he got hurt 3 times and got an option to leave, an option most would jump at.
SelfInflicted wounds? He has shrapnal still stuck in his body. Do you believe what your saying? You have no clue about Vietnam. My dad was shot and he would tell you to screw off if he heard what you were saying. Kerry risked his life in Vietnam when he didn't have to go. He saved a man's life. Anything you say is irrelevent.

Additionally, the physician who treated Kerry's first combat wound came forward this week, recalling Kerry as the man who even then claimed he'd be "the next JFK from Massachusetts." Louis Letson, now a retired medical doctor, recalled the encounter in which Kerry attributed the superficial wound to incoming enemy fire -- although other crew members said Kerry likely injured himself with a ricocheted fragment from a mortar round fired into nearby rocks. Dr. Letson remembered the metal fragment as barely having broken the skin and easily removed with forceps; in fact, he covered the wound with a Band-Aid.
Also weighing in was retired Lt. Commander Grant Hibbard, who commanded Kerry's swift-boat unit. Hibbard questions whether the aforementioned scratch was worthy of a Purple Heart -- and he questions how Kerry got it. "The briefing from some members of that crew the morning after revealed that they had not received enemy fire," Hibbard said. "and yet Lieutenant Kerry informed me of a wound, he showed me a scratch on his arm and a piece of shrapnel in his hand that appeared to be from one of our own M-79s. It was later reported to me that Lieutenant Kerry had fired an M-79 and it had exploded off the adjacent shoreline. I do not recall being advised of any medical treatment and probably said something like, 'Forget it.' He later received a Purple Heart for that scratch, and I don't know how." The group has pushed Kerry to allow the Navy to release his complete medical and service records.

Who's your source? Why are so many people running this crap when Republicans are not talking about? George W. Bush hasn't even mentioned it. IT'S NOT AN ISSUE. The President hasn't mentioned it because there is no proof. John Kerry saved a man's life. He ambushed a VC and killed him. What the hell are you people attacking? This is stupid smeer campaign funded by Texas Republicans. They didn't care when he ran for Congress but now they make it an issue. John McCain a Republican is saying There lies, there wrong, and the president should stop them from being aired! From a Conservative! So shut up about all this non-issue smeer crap. It's rediculous.
I think you Conservatives should ask Dick Cheaney and Bush what the hell they were doing. Because Kerry went, served and was a hero.
