Phil's gone, Shaq's gone, Kobe finally decided to sign again with the Lakers, Fisher's gone, Malone don't know
Where does this put the Lakers? Based on current squads of other Western conference teams- probably behind San Antonio, Minnesota, Denver, Houston, Utah, Sacramento and Dallas.
If the moves were made for the longer term, can the Lakers be a better team in the longer term? At this time, that's the only way to slice this one.

Don't count them out... I think they will make playoffs and surpise a lot of people. They don't have a horrible team. The team isn't that great but could get up to a 6 seed in the West IMO.

They have Gary Payton, who with the Bucks proved to me that he was the most overrated player in the league. They have overrated and overpayed Devean George who does everything wrong. Lamar Odom is going to be one of the NBA's best in my opinion. Karl Malone, who knows. Caron Butler, definatly overrated coming out of school. Although LAL fan's think he is one of the NBA's rising stars, forget it. Brain Grant will be a PF, and my new Favorite guy Sasha Vujacic is going to be a player.

In the West, it's hard.
1. San Antonio 2. Denver 3. Sacromento 4. Houston 5. Minnesota 6. Dallas 7. Los Angeles 8. Utah
