This question is directed moreso to Bill, Poleon, WordJockey and probably DevilBear...
Just curious about who you guys thought was better and why...Both had amazing supporting casts...
The only thing that I have to go on are their college stats, a few highlights and their pro careers...and we all know that Bill Walton's career in the pros was hampered by injuries so I can't use that as a measuring stick...
Just wanted to know your opinions...

Say Hey DC!
Not sure if the others would agree, but in college I think Alcindor still gets the nod for the overall career. Now, When UCLA lost to Houston, Alcindor was hurt and then when they played in the NCAAs, UCLA creamed Houston. However, for one game....Walton's performance in the finals of his senior year, I think it was, ranks as the most dominating single game I have ever seen.

Thanks for the feedback, Poleon...
I wonder how much more dominating they both would have been if dunking was allowed...
Could Wilt dunk in college?
Wasn't his dominance one of the reasons they took away dunking and widened the lane?

You know, I can't remember if Wilt could dunk, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason the dunk was banned for many years and the lane widened too. Only Bill Russell, when he was with San Francisco and later the Celtics, ever had much success stopping Wilt.

Dunking was outlawed pre-Wilt (which is why he developed his dispy-doo finger roll - I forget the fellow's name, but he played at Oklahoma State & was pretty dominating.
I vote for Lew as a better overall player than Walton because he was so unstoppable offensively. Don't use the Memphis State game, where they were just freaking overmatched, to compare - there was just nothing teams could do to stop Lew from getting his points. Walton was a better passer but Lew wasn't really all that bad.

In college, Bill was damn close. He was considered a better passer, they were close on rebounds, but Lew would win the shooting battle. I guess, by a bit, Alcindor. But I'm probably biased from the pro stats. I got a kick out of him being such an obvious "hippie type" playing for Wooden, which was and is quite a feat for Wooden, when you consider it.
I was always under the impression that it was Wilt that caused the dunk rule, but I may be confusing it with widening the lane.
Anyone know about the lane thing?
