Know what else the republicans did? Impose the income tax see below: income tax law: an overview In 1913, the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified. It empowered Congress to tax "incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." The Internal Revenue Code is today embodied as Title 26 of the United States Code (26 U.S.C.) and is a lineal descendant of the income tax act passed in 1913, following ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment. While some states do not have an income tax (Nevada), all residents and all citizens of the United States are subject to the federal income tax. Not everyone, however, must file a return. The requirements for filing are found in 26 U.S.C. 6011. As the largest contributor, its purpose is to generate revenue for the federal budget. In 1985 for example, the government collected over $450 billion in income tax from a total of $742 billion in total internal revenue receipts. The funds collected are essential for the shaping and preservation of a free market economy. Some terms are essential in understanding income tax law. "Gross income" can be generaly defined as "all income from whatever source derived;" a more complete definition is found in 26 U.S.C. 61. Other important definitions like "taxable income" and "adjusted gross income" can also be found in Chapter I of Title 26. These terms are not fixed nor should anyone be confident in understanding their true meaning after a cursory reading because their imputed definitions change with time. The Supreme Court, through case law, demonstrates the changing meaning of taxable income. Individuals are not the only ones required to file income tax returns. Corporations do as well. While they are subject to may of the same rles as are individual taxpayers, they are also covered by an intricate body of rules addressed to the peculiar problems of corporations. " Now, I understand that an amendment has to be ratified by states and it happens over time. Don't see how you can hang this on the republicans. It appears we were all in it togather.

Hi deecee. Don't know why they freed the slaves, but it was a pretty good idea. How ya been?? I don't know if you can give one party credit more than the other as over the years both parties have changed what they once stood for.

This is a man whose state was number 48 in the country in education....NUMBER 48!!!! That was above Mississippi and either Georgia or Alabama...
Deecee, where did you get this. Aren't you meaning Arkansas, which was the home of Clinton. As someone who lived real close to Texas for 12 years, I think their academic standing is pretty good.
Roy. I know people make fun of Pres. Bush for his improper grammer at times, but did you see the late night switch to Kerry and he was trying to explain something and mid-sentence he seemed to lose his train of thought and there was total silence and then he went to his old line, "As a young man I defended this country and you can rest assured that as President I will too."
Also, while speaking about speaking. The night the Democrate spoke they went to the floor for a word from Juan Williams. He referred to the speach as a brime and firestorm speech. Now why didn't anyone make fun of that?
As far as paying for the programs that are being proposed, how soon we forget that when you reduce taxes more money comes into the coffers because people have more money to spend which produces more tax income. Oh well. Just vote how you feel, but vote.

DC, Don't feel that you have the corner on the preachers who love the almighty dollar. There are plenty of white preachers who prey on poor white people to give them the good life. I, fortunately, have found a church and a pastor who preach the word with an emphasis on loving our brothers (regardless of color) and trying to improve the world and situation we live in. We get too hung up on doctrin and dogmas and forget that it is really very simple. Jesus gave two great commandments. The first, " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your might." Second to that is "Love your neighbor as yourself. " If we apply these two commandments to all that we do the world would be a pretty good place. One more thing. To properly apply the second great commandment we should learn to love who we are. If we are to love our brothers as we love ourselves, we better learn to love ourselves. Please bow your heads for prayer. Brother DC would you dismiss us today.

txheel, I think Thursday night you will hear the rep plan on economic issues. As a small business man, I can tell you that my business has improved each year over the last for the past three years. No complaints from here on the direction of the economy.

I emailed Greta Van Susteran and suggested she get Susan Estrich off her show. That lady is so disengenuos (sp) she makes me ill. Monday night either she (Greta) or one of the other anchors interviewed a black democratic official and asked him about the increased number of blacks in attendence at the RNC this year. They also asked him about the fact that President Bush appointed two blacks to high positions in his cabinet (Powell and Rice). The man responded that those two were simply the best qualified for the job and not really representative of the black population. EXCUSE ME. Is this idiot saying that to represent the black population you must not be qualified for your job. There were no follow up questions and I was extremely upset. I can't imagine how blacks felt if they heard that. That is a racist comment coming from a black democratic official.

dee cee. You have a lot of hate and animosity built up and there may be good reason, but let's try to look without preconcieved notions. The biggest predjudice in the US right now is against God and Christian Values. I think that you are not against God and Christian values, but the people who are (secularists) are overwhelmingly democrates. Now, does that make all democrates evil. No. You point out some republicans which may have said something insensitive or done something that would classify them an racists, but you can't then say republicans are racists. Let's look at prolife. Are you allowed to be prolife and be a democrate. Evidently not. Arnold is pro choice, but is accepted wildly by republicans. As arnold said, you do not have to agree with all parts of the republican platform to be a republican. When did a pro lifer ever speak before the DNC??? N Now, some of the things you mentioned I cannot comment on because I am simply not aware enough of the facts to dispute what you say, however I will say that the democrates have had the black vote in their hip pocket for 50 years and have really done nothing but encourage the majority to stay in poverty. Lastly, what is wrong with having people who want to live here speak english???

Good morning dee cee. I didn't get to hear the speech you are talking about, just heard it referred to as the Republican answer for Obama. Did get to listen to Arnold and Mrs. Bush. His speech was excellent and she is a classy Lady. To answer your question, I think there are certainly kinds of assistance that are required and people who accept it are not bad people. I have a real problem with the survivors and dependents of 9-11 getting in excess of a million dollars. We should all be responsible for taking care of our loved ones if something happens to us. That is what life insurance is for. I think we need to do more for the families of our military and there is certainly nothing wrong with them taking assistance. I guess I don't understand your comment about republican legislation and legislators being devisive. Could you clarify that or give an example.

School started last Monday at my house. Not for me, but my 23 year old son started back to SMS. I talk to my son a lot so I am qualified to chat with most the people on here. Enjoy the banter when I can get on. Yesterday was month end, so I didn't even check the board till 5PM. Evidently everyone was busy yesterday.

I am with Thad on revisiting CBS once the season starts as I am still having trouble adjusting to this format and following the different topics. I liked it much better the way CBS is set up. Will continue posting here under general topics, but am for giving CBS a shot after bb season starts.

If Toad could make the selection time 30 seconds it would speed it up, but might cause other problems.

Pat, I think if you don't make a pick in the allotted time it picks the next player you have listed, or the highest ranked player available. It really slows down the process for those that are there.
