Well, I tend to take actual wins more into account when deciding the fine points of ranking several very close teams. They're all in the same conference and have the same record. My ranking mostly reflects these teams' rankings against one another. Most people seem to agree that when a team beats another, that's usually an indication that they're probably better (USUALLY; see my argument in favor of Texas A&M, a team that I honestly don't much care for, for an exception). You might disagree. But consider: Clemson beat Wake Forest and Maryland. Clemson beat NC State, who ALSO beat Wake Forest and Maryland. While there is a very strong argument (one which I support with my TCU-Northwestern-tOSU argument every chance I get) against "Team A beat Team B beat Team C, so A is automatically better than Team C," I simply don't see how you can rank Clemson lower than three teams that it beat, especially when one of those three also beat the other two.
Yes, home field advantage might be a good consideration. But when all is said and done, I still consider it to be an intangible. Yes, I think intangibles can and do often have a major effect on games (I'm hoping certain intangibles help TCU win one of our next two games, though I'm not counting on it). But I think you're letting intangibles blind you to the actual outcome of games.
Can anyone give me a quick rundown of offense-defense ratings for each of those teams? I don't have the time to look right now.
You know what? I don't really even like Clemson. I personally LIKE NC State and Maryland better than Clemson. That doesn't mean I think they ARE better, though.
