No offense meant. Just a funny. You could replace "ice fishing" and "Old Milwaukee" and a couple of other terms and apply it to just about anyplace.

As a new user, from the CBS group, I appreciate wanting to keep things on topic, and appreciate the board. BUT, having a million threads gets really old. If you want to have a million threads, people will grow tired of the board quickly. It's your board, so go ahead and do what you want, but IMO, you will just lose users.

Yeah. Michael Moore will be about as popular in the convention hall as a Jimmy Dean pork sausage salesman in Israel. ;D

I'm not even going to watch the RNC. I didn't watch the DNC either. I already know who they are going to nominate and who I'm voting for or against I remember the fun days when television was new and Walter Cronkite was the reporter and there actually was some doubt as to who the nominee of each party was going to be! "Lead, Follow or get the Hell out of the way!" Poleon, weren't you there for the William Jennings Bryant "back room" shennagians? j/k

You are right about the compliment. As for the convention, I have and will be watching. He's my President too, you know. Besides, it's great theater, watching rich white guys dance and act compassionate. (I guess that could be said for both conventions.) "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." (Just kidding about the enemy crack.)

I'm tired of being a 'Rookie." Maybe I'll just post this message over and over to get 50. Then again, at an older age, maybe I should be glad.

In the same vein, the saying goes in Lexington that Commonwealth Stadium is where 70,000 Wildcat fans get together on Saturdays to argue about the upcoming basketball season. I'm not seeing where we can get in to pick 'em yet either. I'm gonna miss the Pillsbury Throwboy. We might not win, but it was fun to see 3 big SEC linemen trying to take Lorenzen down. Gotta get your kicks somewhere...

Jesse, Neither one had great college grades. GW had slightly better than C and Kerry was low C's. Bush did complete his masters degree, but Kerry has no post graduate hours. Gotta go to work for a while. Catch ya later. I should be getting close to veteran status. Last I checked, a Law degree is considered a post graduate degree. Neither candidate would be considered a scholar, and while I like to make fun of Bush's malaprops, he's not a dummy, just that he's also not a great speaker or quick on his feet. I think it is a shame that he is handled so tightly by his people, I think he would be MORE likeable if he were to let loose with more of his own thoughts. On the whole swift boat thing, I think Bush would be well served by condemning those particular ads. I think that will hurt him in the long run. I also think or hope that after the convention, the topic will switch to something else. What I do dislike, and this goes for the "liberal" and "conservative" press, is that we are fed these carefully scripted sound bites, but never are given the factual basis or the refutations of them until much later. It would be the same (forgive me Bill but you know what I mean) if I started each post by asking if Bill still beat his wife. He doesn't, but by starting every post with something like that, lazy people would have planted in their heads that he just might be a wife beater. We should all be glad we still live in a place where we can have these discussions. There are things about the party that I vote for the most that bother me, examples would be a reputation for spending, and going overboard with regulations. By the same token, there are things that I LIKE about the GOP, namely, that I believe that a large percentage of people want to lead a hardworking, good life. I think that the extremists of both parties have hijacked the discussion. I take my hat off to the Republican side for making the Democratic side come closer to the right, than the Dems have done going to the left. If you take Bill Clinton, and look at his economic programs, he was a conservative, or should I say centrist democrat. I am appalled that the party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt has become a party which spends at a higher rate than the Dems ever did, while shifting the tax burden to the middle and lower classes. The Republicans were also the party of the environment, in many ways. Teddy started the National Park service, and Nixon began the EPA. Now those are being torn apart. Both parties have been influenced by big money donors, and my top complaint is the health care industry, followed by big media. We have lost all control over both. We are the ONLY industrialized nation with a health care system which is so skewed to the rich. Insurance premiums are out of control, and the new Medicare prescription bebefit is a joke. The government negotiates for price breaks in volume buying in just about every other sector, but the new law prohibits this in drugs. That is a real scandal. The media is now being controlled by fewer and fewer conglomerates, and the "public" airwaves are no longer. So many people get their news only from TV and radio, and that this is alarming. Big business = soft on the powerful, If you think NBC, CBS, and ABC are liberal, then you are fooling yourself. NBC is owned by GE, the source of the most Superfund cleanup sites in the nation, CBS was owned by Westinghouse, the largest nuclear reactor builder, and ABC is owned by Disney. I guess my rambling will not change any minds, but please vote, and even if you are voting for what you think is the lesser of two evils, that IS better than not voting at all. Like I believe txheel said, read, read, read. Do some research. Remember, both these parties are treating you like a consumer. Be smart, and see what car you really want to buy. Thus ends my screed of the week.

... perhaps by the time you are of voting age we can make you into a conservative. Aww, Bill. At least let the young man have a life first. He's got plenty of time to grow old and dull.

Here's my take. A good bunch of guys were on every weekday, and some other times as well. About 3 weeks ago, the ESPN boards went down, and a group of 8 to 10 came in and started talking trash. The "old-timers" gave it right back at 'em, and it deteroriated from there. Either a new ESPNer got upset, and ratted on an old-timer, or an old-timer got upset and did the same. Long story short, (too late) the board got 'watched', and a lot of posts would suddenly be deleted. If anything was said even remotely political or controversial, it just disappeared. No explinations. This continued after the ESPNers went back to their board after it was repaired. Either there was a moderator who loved getting his rocks off deleting messages, sometimes the whole board, b-ball topics and all, or someone hacked into the system and accomplished the same thing. I'm still not sure which. Glad for the switch. We're not that bad a bunch. heck, I'm an old liberal, and some of my best buds on the board are old arch conservatives. We were hurting no one. That help?

Thanks for the new site. The ex-CBS bunch is not too bad, Jesse. Love the "Dick Pic," but for reasons more similar to yours, I think. "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"
