You should enjoy the comparative politics class. As a poli sci major myself, I know enjoyed it. Actually, with the war in Iraq going on right now, there should be some pretty heated debates in your class. I know there was in mine because we debated the war in the Balkans quite heavily.

there already are, the fact that our teacher assigned us the ny times as our reading text and is recruiting paul krugman to come and speak to the class makes me wary however

Does the class seem to be more IR theory based of practice base! I know in my poli sci classes they seemed theory based. However, in my Public Policy Analysis classes, everything seemed practice based.

Do your NY Times reading, but if you have the time always read the Ecomonist as well. I find it tries to be more objective will at times not afraid of being critical of policy choices esp in the US and Europe. It's always nice to get the view from a publication dedicated to patrons outside of the US.

I like the Economist more because it tends to have a more broadened view. I don't know if they have in at your school, but if they have a congressional publicy policy class, I highly encourage it. It was the best class I took in college. We really learned the procedures and strategies in marking up, debating ( in some cases filibustering), and voting on legislation. My class was taught by a former congressional staffer for a congressman in Waco, TX.
