Just like MVP, but only pitchers can win it...LOL
AL - Mulder, Santana, Rivera, Schilling, Cordero
NL - Schmidt, Benitez, Ortiz, Oswalt, Gagne
There's top 5 for each league.

But I would put Gagne in 2nd in the NL. Oswalt is great, and recently has been the most consistant pitcher for the Astros, and is now the first NL pitcher to get to 16 wins.

Gagne is worn out without a good setup man. The Cy Young winners will be Mudler and Schmidt.

Closers rarely get the Cy-young and I would doubt that Gagne would get it. It will probable be a starting pitcher like usual.

What about Carl Pavano? Same record as Schmidt and 2.99 ERA. I think if Schmidt slips in wins and Pavano doesnt, he gets it.
How does Ortiz have a chance? His ERA is near 4 and his record isnt impressive. In addition, look at his BAA and WHIP.
As far as Gagne vs Benitez, look at the stats. Benitez has a lower BAA, lower ERA, and lower WHIP and is on pace for more saves. But the poster was right, they are usually hesistant to give it to a closer.
Btw, Benitez has two no hitters this year via innings pitched. He hasnt allowed a hit in like 13 past innings.

Santana is the only person that has a decent shot in either the AL or NL to win unless Schmidt or Mulder slip badly. Still I think Santana has to keep winning and Mulder slip a little for him to win it.

I'd have to say that Santana is as good as gold for the CY Young. He's just been to dominant this second half especially. He's a lock for 20 wins this year, only the big unit has a better era and more ks.

Watch Schilling edge out Santana. It would be a disgrace, but not really surprising. Why not mention Unit? They should bag all the W-L junk and toss him his due.

Schmit will win in the NL because he has wins and a low ERA. Johnson, Sheets, and Perez I think are all close behind, but with wins and a low ERA that will edge out a person with low ERA and a lot of K's.

santana should win it. he's been the most dominating P this year. unit shouldnt win it, but not cuz W's and L's. those arent his fault. schmidt has just had a better season. so i say santana and schmidt.
