I had to pick Arkansas just to show variety plus they recruited a local boy (name is Hill) that is a 6'11" prospect. Don't really think they will be that good this year, but they have a good coach and think they will push UK in a couple years.

Roy does well with a 7 or 8 man rotation so you will be OK. He does good time management and can get a lot out of what he has.. He just can't win the big one.

KU's bench could be strong and it could be great, so much depends on the young guys. We are so deep with big guys and 2 and 3 position players. Self says the 4 and 5 are going to be big bangers and with the new guys he has 5 and maybe 6 big bangers. The problem is of course, you can only play 5 at a time as Oklahome found out in 88 when they had more bench than KU.

I think Ku would be included in the top five best benches. I don't know much about the other teams benches, how do they stack up. Anyone have a comment??

The country's No. 2-ranked men's basketball recruiting class hasn't disappointed at Kansas University's pre-Canada tour practices.
advertisement "I think they are all a little bit ahead of where I thought they'd be," Kansas University coach Bill Self said, assessing the progress of Alex Galindo, C.J. Giles, Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kaun and Russell Robinson through four workouts.
"When you think of great players ... I think of guys who come in and average 12, 14 (points) as a freshman. I don't think we've got guys like that. I think we have the best scenario. We have guys who make us better, but are not coming in spoiled."
Self said during a remote broadcast with 610-AM Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse that the newcomers' enthusiasm, mixed with the seniors' intensity, had made for tremendous practices.
"One thing about these practices, our guys are getting after it," Self said. "I'd bet if you asked our players of our eight best practices last year as a whole, these four (August workouts) would have fit in those eight -- not from a performance standpoint, but an attitude and a toughness and competitive standpoint.
"Our practice (Sunday) was as good or better than 95 percent of all practices last year. Our freshmen contributed to it and our seniors. The seniors being vocal and their leadership ... they've stepped up their game. It seems to be a really hungry bunch, now."
KU's freshmen, who were ranked No. 2 nationally behind Kentucky by rivals.com, "are very good, not great. Great don't go to school anymore," Self said.
"Where it ranks, who knows? Writers and recruiting analysts overhype everyone. I'm not saying that in a bad way, (but) there are 10 schools who had the No. 2 recruiting class in America."
Three of KU's newcomers -- No. 34-rated Kaun, No. 54 Jackson and No. 62 Giles -- are big men. They've all impressed.
"I am excited," Self said. "Those three will work their tails off each and every day to get the best chance to play next to Wayne (Simien). If one time you don't go to the glass or don't try to put both hands above the rim on a tip-in, you will be behind Moulaye (Niang), Sasha, Darnell, Christian (Moody) or whomever, and you've got to wait your time to get back in there."
Kaun is 6-foot-11, 235 pounds, Jackson is 6-8, 240 and Giles is a more svelte 6-10, 220.
"Sasha's size is certainly going to give some people problems," Self said. "Darnell ... the best thing is he knows who he is. He's a rebounder, banger, screener -- a defender who can guard the other team's best player.
"C.J. has done some things I didn't know he could do. We still need to get some weight on him, but I think he can hold his own. I think he'll fight."
KU's two perimeter newcomers -- the No. 27-ranked Robinson and No. 65 Galindo --also have not disappointed.
"Russell told me, ‘My goal is to be a sophomore by November,''' Self said of the 6-1 point guard/shooting guard. "It's a pretty good goal for a guard thinking he has a chance to be a good guard at Kansas.
"He understands and has a feel for what's going on."
The 6-7 Galindo, who entered with a reputation as a deadly shooter, is "shooting well," Self said. "Alex can shoot the basketball."

Last report I saw said the one kid would commit this weekend if he has a good visit at KU. That would be Miles and Rogers pretty much said the same thing. Did you hear that Jeff Hawkins has been indefinately suspended from the Jayhawks. Neither side is giving out info. He says he is trying to adjust his attitude and Self says Jeff is doing it the right way and will possibly be reinstated by Oct 15. In the mean time he needs to work out on his own. Perhaps he will be the one that redshirts as Self says he has too many perimeter players.

I don't think he will play college ball, so I am glad he didn't choose KU and tie up a scholarship. My BIL who is a big KU Alum says Self actually withdrew his scholly offer to TH after he started saying he hoped to turn pro next year. I have no link for this info, but he said it was reliable info.

Just thought of a player few of us have heard of, but since this is a college basketball board, a guy named Bill Sharman once scored 100 points in a college basketball game. We would have to list that as one of the greatest games by a college player. He also played pro for a few years. Poleon, help me out on this. Do I have it right?

Can't argue with a triple double for an intire season, unless you consider average over 50 for an entire season. I would say, best scorer Wilt in his day, best defender Russell, best all around player Big O.

Wilt Chamberlains 100 point game will probably never be topped. I am one of the few on this board (or any other) that remembers that feat.

Woody was a pro player back in the 50s and early 60s. I can't even remember who he played for, but he had a line drive shot that somehow or other went in. He was not an all stare, but for some reason he was my favorite player as a young teen. Bill Bridges was a great rebounder from KU and had a good pro career. I think that my vote for all around greatest player might be Elgin Baylor, even though everyone tries to give that honor to MJ. Elgin was a player before his time. In todays game he would excell, but he played in a time when it was more important to be a team player. IMO

Deecee, I guess you mean other than myself. I have not seen anyone unknown like pretty Al that I would put on my list, but I was honored to see the Big O in person and Wilt and Elgin Baylor and they were all the greatest in their own right. My altime favorite players were Bill Bridges and Woody Saulsberry. You get bonus points if you even know who Woody was. LOL
