I want to clarify something.
I would say that Auburn and Maryland are most likely not 2 of the ten best teams in the nation this year.
But no one else has really stepped forward as better than Auburn and Maryland for the 9th and 10th spots in my mind. Purdue has been impressive, as have Wisconsin, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Boise State, Utah, Iowa, West Virginia, Tennessee, Cal, and Minnesota. But I do not believe that any of those teams have been more impressive than Auburn or Maryland considering their competition. We'll see as the year goes on, and odds are that Auburn and Maryland are not top 10 teams, but I haven't seen proof any of these other teams are either, but they could show that down the line.
The only teams that were or are possible top 10 teams that have really NOT impressed me are Michigan, OSU, LSU, USC, Clemson, Mizzou, and K State.
A close win to a well-prepared rival with a decent team is not too unimpressive to me. So Texas and Georgia have not yet shown to me that they are not top level teams.

I may be wrong.
Honestly, Michigan and Ohio State have not impressed me.
Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin have but most of them have yet to play a strong team, so i didn't see how i could move them aheda of a number of teams becuase for instance, Iowa struggled against Iowa State, Minnesota wasn't impressive against Illinois State from what I hear, but I haven't watched the game. Purdue and Wisconsin have been pretty impressive and theres a good chance I underrated them in the Preseason, but I can't move them ahead of teams like Auburn, UVA, Maryland, or Florida until one of those teams don't impress me.
I've said for a while Georgia Tech is a top 25 team, but I never expected them to win in Death Valley. I thought that merited a significant move up in the rankings.

I really doubt that A&M clobbers TCU especially if they play anything like they did against Utah Well, I can promise you A&M won't clobber TCU tommorrow, but thats simply because they play the Tigers. Texas Tech plays TCU tom., and Texas A&M plays Clemson. I'm sure you just got your wires crossed and typred the wrong school, but i figured i'd point it out. Expect the Frogs and Tigers to defeat the Raiders and Aggies, respectively.

Purdue vs ND With all due respect to Notre Dame (after all they did dominate this sport for many years)......this game will be over before half time. Purdue will have another easy win. I would've said so after ND lost to BYU in a down year, but they did beat Michigan, both in the trenches and on the scoreboard, and I thought UM was likely the best team in the Big 10. Though I think Purdue will win a close one. an aside... Is this a futuristic Big 10 (with a new name) matchup? I think ND will try and get itself out of its Big East relationship and after the current deal ends w/ NBC they will likely see the need to join a superconference, and the Big 10 is a perfect fit. That would leave the Pac 10 as the only major conference w/o a champiionshipo game. Would the Pac 10 look at fresno, boise, utah, hawaii, byu, sdsu, or unm to get 2 more teams?

You forgot Texas. They are always overrated. I disagree. I think they have simply not played up to their ability in the last few years. They have the talent, and i think Brown is a good coach, but for some reason or another they don't make it over the top. Though i think they will this year.

By the way...does anyone here know why SC is still at #1. Oklahoma is an easy #1 pick for me. SC should be right next to LSU. Yeah, I don't see how USC doesn't drop at all, since the last poll they lost their best player and got outplayed by the 8th best team in the ACC. Frankly, I think Texas was the only top 10 team that was impressive in their win. Oklahoma wasn't horrible, but Texas was very strong. And North Texas is possibly a better team than Bowling Green this year.

They don't match up in suspense, etc. However, LSU/OSU wasn't what Offensive and Defensive coordinators call a good game. Neither team had stunning offenses, one won because the other missed a PAT in OT directly, an OT that resulted because of 2 other missed PAT (yes, and a bad call about a safety). TCU/Northwestern, neither had a Defense. Michigan played excelled defense, strong offense, good special teams. They had the "best" game, although not the most entertaining. I would rather emulate Michigan than LSU right now. As for most entertaining game, LSU/OSU and TCU/Northwestern both got my heart rate up. Clemson about made it stop. Well, the "best game" term is between the two teams, not which one team looked the best in its opener. I''d love to chip into the conversation, but i couldn't watch the end of either the LSU/OSU game or Clemson/Wake because I was up in College Park.

I wouldn't count out Hawaii just yet. FAU has shocked me this year, North Texas was still supposed to be the class of the Sunbelt and Hawaii a solid WAC team. Hawaii should've beaten FAU, but I think they may recover. Of course, they have huge home field advantage (in WAC terms) and will likely struggle at Boise State and Fresno State. But i'm no WAC buff, so I'm likely wrong.

My vote goes to Derrick Johnson
Marcus Spears, Eric Henderson, and Antrel Rolle would be my honorable mentions.

I'm going with Whitehurst
But people like Orvlosky, Frye, Walter, and even Vince Young belong in the conversation as well.
Though i know there were only 8 places to put choices.

Well, contender as in, contending to be a top 25 team.

I stated in another thread i tthink Clemson has the hardest schedule of any contender in the nation.
Well, in addition to games at Miami and at FSU they also have Maryland, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, South Carolina and NCState at home than Virginia and Texas A&M on the road.
They actually don't play Va Tech, but Va Tech's the 8th best team in the ACC anyway.
